In 1975, the studio "Filmstrip" released a screen version of the fairy tale by Gianni Rodari "Robot, who wanted to sleep." The hero of the filmstrip, Caterino's home robot, decided to try to fall asleep like his master. Several unsuccessful attempts did not lead to anything (this option is not provided for in robots), but one-day Katerina finally forgot a deep sleep. When his neighbors noticed the sleeper, they made a noise. The fallen robot caused a terrible commotion in Rome; he was taken to court and sentenced to two weeks in prison. However, the scene of Caterino's awakening was seen not only by people but also by dozens of other home robots of the city. Having conspired with hundreds of their fellow tribesmen, they also tried to fall asleep by the method of Katrina, and…

Emptiness

Emptiness
A few years ago I worked as an opera in the department of internal affairs in China Town. In this regard, I want to tell one case that I attended when giving evidence.
It was at the beginning of June 2000, I would be on days, on duty.
The area in the sense of ordinary crime was rather calm - a hooligan, petty thefts were in progress. Of the grave were murders, but mostly business/politics, i.e. All order.
Three PLN cars were shuttling around the district, one of which started this story:
3-30 am call, one of the groups. "Blow on Solyanka." We sat down and drove off, the second opera, I and three other employees. After 3 minutes on the spot. A woman, 30 years old, is dressed decently, according to the documents of a Muscovite. Alive. Whole, not counting two scratches. It is worth, crying, muttering something. Sober. We with Serge (the second opera) and Andrey (the senior from the group) approach with inquiries and calming.…

Night Office

Night OfficeBut I never told anyone this story and, I think, I will never say (in the case of the probability of my identity being discovered). One night, I guarded the office at night. Obligations were a minimum - to watch that no one broke in. (I am a driveless nobleman, but if someone managed to break this unreal iron door at night, he would not have been able to stop the monies, so I was there for the pro forma), let in Bosses, and also that the ceiling does not flow - sometimes their pipes on the second floor broke through. And once a week, you need to wash the windows from the inside. In general, the work is simple and not dusty. And there were computers with all sorts of simple toys, such as the heroes of the sword and the magic of the third - and I do not need more. In this office, I spent nights from Saturday to Sunday. Everything was always calm; the keys were only from the director, some manager and me. And one day on Saturday I sat behind the heroes and suddenly something …

William A. Chanler

William A. Chanler

In the life of the hero of our article, the threads of the most diverse subjects have intricately intertwined, which continue to exert a significant influence on the world: the ascent of the American empire, the export of the revolution, and the connection between the US foreign policy services and the Islamist militant organizations. But beyond that, the life of William Astor Chanler is imbued with that special spirit of an international mystery man, now preserved only in romantic spy movies. William Astor Chanler was born June 11, 1867, in the city of Newport, in the state of Rhode Island - a seaside resort for very wealthy Americans. By birth, Chandler belonged to the family as aristocratic as it is generally possible in the United States: along the line of his father, John Winthrop Chanler, his family (Dudley-Winthrop) ascended to the colonial governors of Massachusetts of the seventeenth century, on the maternal line he belonge…

Warsaw Ghetto Part II

The uprising in the Warsaw ghetto: Part II The final liquidation of the ghetto and the beginning of the uprising Already on April 18, the Polish "grenade police" and Ukrainian auxiliary detachments received orders from the German command to encircle the perimeter of the ghetto. The militants of the Jewish Combat Organization and the Jewish Military Union, upon learning of this, prepared to meet the enemy. The ghetto became extinct - the inhabitants hid in prefabricated shelters, there was not a soul left in the streets. The combat groups took their pre-allocated positions: the Anielewicz group was located near the main entrance to the ghetto, the Marek Edelman group at the brush factory. The militants were instructed by the commandant of the insurrection to act not according to the situation, but solely by the earlier given orders - to keep the positions at all costs.
At 6 am on April 19, German and Latvian SS troops with a total strength of up to 800 soldiers entered the ghett…
